Council to trial energy efficient LED street lights

THE streetlights in 11 Ipswich suburbs are set to be upgraded during 2015 thanks to a special Ipswich City Council project.

Councillor Cheryl Bromage said streets in Leichhardt, One Mile, Wulkuraka, Sadliers Crossing, Coalfalls, Woodend, North Ipswich, Brassall, West Ipswich, Churchill and Yamanto would be part of the upcoming Ipswich LED Street Lighting Retrofit Project.

"This project, which will commence this financial year, will involve about 2500 LED street lights being installed in the identified suburbs," she said.

"This project involves conducting a trial of new technology by replacing a number of existing streetlights with the energy efficient LED street lights."

The project is funded by council and the Federal Government as part of the Community Energy Efficiency Program.

Residents can learn more about the project through a series of free community information sessions:

  • February 2 - 6pm-8pm, Queens Park Environmental Education Centre, Merle Finimore Ave, Ipswich;
  • February 3 - 10am-noon, North Ipswich Reserve Corporate Centre, 43 The Terrace, North Ipswich and;
  • February 4 - 6pm-8pm, Leichhardt Community Centre, 1 Denman St, Leichhardt.

RVSPs are due by January 28 - email enviroed@ipswich.qld.gov.au or phone 3810 6666.
