A YOUNG woman brutally bashed a woman who swore at her in the street before bragging about it on Facebook. Today she is behind bars.
The Rockhampton Magistrates Court heard Amy-Lee Frances, 21, punched her victim fives times and pushed her to the ground in East St, Rockhampton, after a drinking session at Strutters Nightclub.
The woman's collarbone was broken, she received a black eye, had a swollen finger, and needed stitches to a cut above one eye.
Police prosecutor Matthew Heelan said Frances gloated about hospitalising a woman on the social networking site only hours after the attack.
Frances's lawyer, Danny Yarrow, said it was the second fight his client had had with the victim that night.
He alleged the victim stole alcoholic drinks from Frances and her friend at Strutters.
Mr Yarrow said the women began fighting and Frances received a black eye.
They left the nightclub separately, but met up again half an hour later when Frances allegedly took exception to obscenities being yelled at her before the assault.
Mr Yarrow said his client showed “a degree of remorse” for the attack by pleading guilty.
Frances smiled at two friends in the public gallery of the court room while Mr Yarrow discussed the bashing.
But her smile soon turned to tears when Magistrate Tom Bradshaw sentenced her to nine months in prison with a parole release date of October 14, 2011.
Mr Bradshaw described it as a “very vicious attack” made worse by Frances's bragging on Facebook.
He said although Frances felt provoked she had acted “excessively” and ordered she pay the woman $2000 for her “pain and suffering”.
Frances was banned from nightclubs in the Rockhampton CBD for 12 months.
