IT could not have been a more perfect weekend for APN online competition winners Andrew and Jackson Merrick.

The brothers won free camping tickets to Splendour in the Grass thanks to Andrew’s humorous entry via the Queensland Times website.

“It’s so laid back and relaxed and fun,” he said.

“I haven’t been to Splendour since (it was in) Byron and it was so tiny there. Here (Woodford) is so big and nice.”

As well as catching sets by Kanye West, Regina Spektor and Alpine, they got to meet American bands GROUPLOVE and Young The Giant.

Both bands are playing in Australia for the first time and made their Splendour debuts on Sunday.

“It was amazing,” said Andrew.

“They were just the nicest people I’ve met, band or otherwise.”

As well as admiring the brothers’ festival fashions, GROUPLOVE invited them to their Sydney show on Wednesday.

“These guys look like they’re in a band. They’re dressed cooler than me,” joked one of the band members.

The Young The Giant front man flew into the country Saturday but the rest of the band enjoyed a few days of relaxation on the Gold Coast before traveling to Woodford.

The band said they were impressed by the festival and particularly enjoyed Australian five-piece Boy & Bear’s set on Saturday.
