First time parents surprised with best Christmas present

FIRST time parents Aaron Kane and Sarah Crane received their best Christmas present this year - the birth of their son, Sonny James Kane.

Sarah went into labour near midnight on Christmas Eve and at 10.16am on Christmas Day, baby Sonny was born at Mackay Base Hospital, weighing 3.77kg.

Due on December 23, he obviously wanted to surprise his mum and dad for Christmas.

"It was a surprise, but it was a good one," excited father Aaron said.

"It's probably the best Christmas present I ever got."

The family is from Dysart and Aaron said they hadn't had their Christmas yet. They hadn't exchanged gifts but he said everything was waiting, ready for them at home.

"I was here from about one in the morning and pretty much here all day," he said.

"We didn't have much time for anything else; he came pretty quickly. It was a hospital Christmas!

"But it was still good to spend time with the baby."

Some family members didn't hesitate to travel in from Dysart yesterday to meet the new addition to the family.

However Aaron said they were due to leave the hospital today and would be expecting a few visitors when they returned home.

It's hard to imagine sharing your birthday with Christmas but Aaron said his son would just have to receive more presents on December 25, to mark both special occasions.

Sonny wasn't the only baby born at Mackay Base Hospital on Christmas Day.

Another baby boy was born about 12 hours after Sonny, at 10.20pm.
