Southern Stars face battle to regain Ashes

THE Australian women's team, the Southern Stars, must play catch-up if it is to regain the Ashes.

England won the solitary Test to take a 6-0 lead on points in the multi-format series after a 61-run triumph at the WACA yesterday.

Six points were on offer for the winner of the Test and England's victory means it now needs to win just two of the six limited-overs games to retain the trophy. Australia must win five.

Two points go to the winner in each of the remaining three ODIs and three Twenty20 internationals.

Australia, starting the final day at 5-57 in pursuit of the 185 needed to win, was dismissed for 123, despite the best efforts of all-rounder and dual international, Ellyse Perry.

Perry (pictured) top-scored with 31 and was named player of match after scoring 71 in the first innings to go with her match bowling figures of 8-79.
