Southern Lockyer win A-Grade title

FOR the second consecutive match Chris Dodt has starred for Southern Lockyer, helping his side to its first A-Grade title.

After starring with the bat in the semi-final, Dodt took 7-43 in the final to help dismiss Mulgowie for 95.

Southern Lockyer captain Brock Harm was delighted with the victory and was quick to credit Dodt and Cameron Sippel.

"It was the Cam Sippel and Chris Dodt show," he said.

"Chris bowled 16 straight and bowled the entire innings."

Batting first in the final, Southern Lockyer made steady progress with Sippel anchoring the innings, top scoring with 94.

At 6/200, Southern Lockyer looked like setting up an imposing total before a late spell by Anthony Sippel (4-34) helped Mulgowie limit the damage to 254.

In reply Dodt terrorised the home side, dismantling the minor premiers well short of the target.

Southern Lockyer was then asked to bat again and despite losing a couple wickets, Cameron Sippel was a rock, helping the Black Ducks to reach 2/74 before the captains got together to call the game off.

It is the first A-Grade title for Southern Lockyer with Ropehill having not won a premiership for more than a decade.

The win ended a run of titles for Gatton/Fordsdale who won the past six titles, beating Southern Lockyer in three of those finals.

"It was a very satisfying win and in a way it gets the monkey off our back after losing three finals," Harm said.

"It was one of those matches where we took our catches and they dropped theirs. In the end that was the difference.

"Cam got dropped on about 30 or 40 and if they took that catch the game could have been completely different.

"We've got a young side so hopefully we can keep it together and try to win again next year."

In the Reserve Grade final, Gatton/Fordsdale has taken out back-to-back premierships.

Playing against Mulgowie in the final, the match was rained out early handing the title to Gatton/Fordsdale, who were the minor premiers.
