Stolen cars lead police from border to Ipswich

UPDATE: A MAN led police on a chase from the southern border of Queensland and into Ipswich this afternoon.

The man entered Queensland via the border town of Wallangarra, south of Stanthorpe, in a stolen Lexus about 11am.

He evaded police in the town of Glen Aplin, about 15 minutes south of Stanthorpe, before continuing north along the New England Highway.

The stolen vehicle passed Warwick at high speed before Ipswich police set up a tyre deflation device on the Cunningham Hwy at Morwincha - just north of Aratula.

Inspector Keith McDonald said the suspect veered around the stingers, colliding with another vehicle in the process.

"He drove a short distance before ditching the car and taking off on foot," Insp McDonald said.

"Police lost sight of him and he has stolen another car from a property nearby."

The second stolen vehicle, a Hyundai Santa Fe, was then followed by crews on the ground and in the sky as it sped towards Ipswich.

The vehicle turned off the Ipswich Motorway at Goodna and was last seen near Forest Lake, as it left the Ipswich police district, about 2.30pm.

The suspect was described as a man with a shaved head and a proportionate build.

Police have now confirmed the suspect ditched the Hyundai before hijacking another vehicle at Marsden about 3.30pm.

EARLIER: A vehicle that is believed to be stolen is now heading at speed through Warwick and towards the Eight Mile intersection.

The dark blue Lexus hatchback, which was earlier involved in a drive off from a shop in Wallangarra, has been evading police for 40 mins.

EARLIER: SOUTHERN Downs police are on the hunt for a dark blue Lexus hatchback  they believe was involved in a drive-off from a Wallangarra shop.

Police believe the car, which took off from the store about 11.40am, is stolen.
