Sophie Monk to finally meet intruder Stu Laundy

SYDNEY pub mogul Stu Laundy will finally hit screens to start a journey his mates claim he's been dreaming about for years - to date Sophie Monk.

Confidential can reveal the well-known Sydney bachelor nearly didn't appear on the show, only being asked to take part after one of his mates pulled out.

A source close to Laundy revealed the details of the rumoured winner's journey on to The Bachelorette.

"One of Stu's mates was actually the one approached to be on the show," the insider revealed.

"He considered it, but ended up deciding not to go through with it, but he knew the right guy.

"The mate suggested that the producers approach Stu because he has been obsessed with Sophie for years."

Laundy, who is separated from his wife Rachel, jumped at the chance to be on the show and compete for the former popster's heart.

Confidential has previously reported that Laundy and Monk were set to go on a date earlier this year, but they never went through with it.

While his appearance on the show has been a poorly kept secret, one person who was out of the loop was Channel Nine presenter Samantha Heathwood, who was casually dating Laundy before he went on the show.

A friend of Heathwood's said although things were very low-key between the pair, she only found out about his involvement when paparazzi shots of him on set emerged.

"He went silent on her, then the next thing he was on the show," the friend said.

Laundy is one of four intruders who will first appear on The Bachelorette tonight.
