Daniel Mortimer may be delivered quick Titans debut

UTILITY Daniel Mortimer could play for his new club, Gold Coast, as early as this weekend after the ex-Rooster signed a deal with the Titans until the end of 2016.

Mortimer, who came off the bench in the tricolours' grand-final win over Manly last year, was granted an immediate release and will join his new teammates for training today.

The Titans will be desperate for him to take the field as soon as possible - they have lost their past five straight matches and are struggling for healthy halves.

Beau Henry limped off in the eighth minute of Monday night's 24-20 loss to Melbourne with a left knee injury that is likely to sideline him for at least six weeks.

Five-eighth Aidan Sezer is also a long-term casualty because of a torn pectoral muscle.

Halfback Albert Kelly (leg) could return for Sunday's match against St George Illawarra but is still in doubt.

That could mean Mortimer could debut for his new club despite last night not being named in the line-up.

Tariq Sims, meanwhile, returns for the Cowboys for the clash with the lowly Newcastle Knights at Hunter Stadium on Monday night.

Sims' return will push Jason Taumalolo to the bench and John Asiata out of the 17.

All four Origin stars - Johnathan Thurston, Matt Scott, Brent Tate and James Tamou have been named to back up.
