AFTER enjoying lunch at Hannant's Takeaway in Gatton, George Zielke was announced the lucky winning shopper of the Shop Local Queensland Week promotion.

Mr Zielke has owned and operated a lawn mowing business in the region for more than 20 years.

Gatton's Yaz Kebabs, owned by Nicole Gurbyz, was named the lucky winning business.

Lockyer Valley Regional Council Mayor Tanya Milligan congratulated participants and businesses for teaming up to celebrate Queensland's heritage.

"Shop Local Queensland Week was a promotion aimed at encouraging Lockyer Valley residents to shop locally by spending $10 or more in one transaction at participating businesses.

"We received an outstanding number of participants, with more than 1100 entries from local shoppers and more than 50 participating businesses.

"This high level of involvement from residents really shows how important it is to support our local businesses and we should continue to celebrate the Lockyer Valley and Queensland year-round," Mayor Milligan said.

The winners received tickets to Wednesday night's State of Origin game at Suncorp Stadium.
