Service chips in for charity

LAIDLEY'S local charity, Laidley Community Centre, will hold acharity golf day this Sunday, November 21, to raise much-needed funds for their work with vulnerable families and local young people.

Last financial year saw the community centre provided more than 24,000 support services including direct material aid to more than 660 struggling families.

With demand on services increasing, the charity needs to increase fundraising just to keep the doors open and services running.

The 12-hole 2-person ambrose social competition is designed to be a fun occasion catering for both golfers and non-golfers.

Donations and sponsorship from local and regional businesses ensure there will be a great range of prizes including categories for under-16s and hit-and-giggle golfers.

The event will finish off with a charity auction including framed signed Broncos shirt and Lions player's poster, golf club set and custom-made 160L fibreglass esky.

“We asking our local community to please back us on this, our biggest fundraiser for the year,” Laidley Community Centre manager Neil Williamson said.

“The more players we have, the more money we can raise, and the more families and young people we can help next year.

“This has to be a really fun way to chip in for charity!”

Laidley Golf Club is hosting the event and is taking bookings now for both 8am and 1pm rounds at just $20 per person.
