Teen crash victim remains in hospital

UPDATE: A 15-year-old boy who sustained serious injuries in a motorcycle accident at Rockmount, south-east of Toowoomba, on Sunday afternoon remained in a Brisbane hospital last night.

The teenager was airlifted by RACQ CareFlight Rescue helicopter to the Mater Children's Hospital on Sunday night after the head-on crash of two trail bikes about 5.30pm.

The CareFlight helicopter, with a critical care doctor and flight intensive care paramedic, landed in a paddock about 500 metres from the scene of the crash.

Forensic accident investigator Senior Constable Jon Reid said the teen sustained serious facial injuries as a result of the collision between the two bikes on Rockmount Rd, Rockmount, just south-east of Preston on Toowoomba's southern outskirts.

The other rider, believed to be a woman in her 30s, was taken by Queensland Ambulance Service to Toowoomba Hospital suffering a broken arm.

Snr Const Reid said it appeared the teenager had been on the incorrect side of the road on a bend in the road when the two bikes collided.

The particular section of road had been under roadworks but was open to traffic, he said.

Investigations into the cause of the accident were continuing, Snr Const Reid said.

A spokeswoman for the Mater Children's Hospital in Brisbane declined to update The Chronicle on the teenager's condition yesterday.
