Sensational night of action

MORE than 1400 people packed into the Grandchester Rec Grounds on Saturday night for what was an action packed Bull and Bronc rodeo.

Despite cold conditions, more than a hundred competitors thrilled crowds as they were bucked and thrown about on bulls and horses.

Committee member Mik Foxlee said the night was a huge success and was held in order to raise much needed funds towards the creation of a Grandchester Horse Sports Club.

“We had a good turnout, it was the first time Grandchester had held the rodeo,” he said.

“It was a new place to have it and a one off thing, but we'll see next year if we can hold it again.

“It was all pretty exciting and good to watch.”

The winner of the open bull ride was Frazer Babbington who extended his lead at the top of the table for the 2011 rodeo season, with the winner of the junior bull ride being PJ Bradford.

The action was not just for the adults, with youngsters getting involved in other rides which proved to be a hit amongst the crowd as well.

Mr Foxlee was hopeful another bull ride would be held in Grandchester next year during warmer conditions.
