Segeyaro departs but Panthers sign English star

PENRITH has received mixed news ahead of tonight’s NRL clash against South Sydney at Pepper Stadium, with hooker James Segeyaro being released but the club picking up English international fullback Zak Hardaker.

Hardaker, 24, will begin training with the Panthers next week.

He has played 154 games for Leeds after making his debut for the Super League outfit in 2011. It is the same club Segeyaro has signed with.

“Zak is an outstanding footballer. With long-term injuries to our Kiwi international centres Dean Whare and Peta Hiku, Zak’s arrival at the club is very timely indeed,” Panthers general manager Phil Gould said.

“It will be a great experience for James to live and play rugby league in another part of the world and I wish him the very best.”

The ninth-placed Panthers are desperate for consistency, with two wins and two losses from their past four games.

The Rabbitohs have been disappointing this month with the 2014 NRL champions recording losses to the Titans, Tigers and Eels.

“If you hold on to the ball and don’t give away penalties, you give yourself a good chance of winning,” South Sydney front-rower Thomas Burgess said.

After featuring at five-eighth in recent weeks, Souths captain Greg Inglis has been named to move to his natural centre position.

But he could move back into the halves after Adam Reynolds’ shoulder injury for New South Wales in Origin II on Wednesday night.

Winger Aaron Gray was also named in the centres and Tautalatasi Tasi will make his first-grade debut on the wing.
