Sector backs Labor plan for disability fund
A COALITION of disability groups has backed a Labor policy to set aside $2 million a year to provide advocacy services for people with disability.
Opposition families spokeswoman Jenny Macklin announced the policy in Canberra on Thursday and called for the Turnbull government to match it.
The Australian Federation of Disability Organisations said the funding was particularly crucial as the National Disability Insurance Scheme was being rolled out.
Labor's pledge coincided with a private sector review of the national disability standards for education.
The review urged Canberra to work with states on a range of issues, including adopting the standards at childcare centres and considering the creation of a national monitoring system for more "proactive compliance" with the rules.
