AN emotional Sebastian Vettel said he was delighted to win his third straight Formula One drivers championship on the Sao Paolo circuit - home track of the late Brazilian superstar Ayrton Senna.
Vettel, 25, became the youngest to win three titles, ironically taking that honour from Senna.
He also became the third driver, alongside fellow German Michael Schumacher and grand prix legend Juan Miguel Fangio, to win three straight championships.
He had to do it the hard way after at one point facing the wrong way on the track after his Red Bull was hit by Bruno Senna's Williams.
Vettel eventually made it to sixth as Jenson Button won the race for McLaren with the Ferraris of Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa in second and third.
That was enough for the German to win the title by three points from Alonso and the Vettel was delighted but admitted to a few tears.
"To win a third title, especially here where one of my heroes Ayrton Senna was from, it's difficult to put into words," he said.Aussie Mark Webber finished fourth, and sixth overall in the championship.
