Scout leader defends child porn charges

AN IPSWICH Scout leader has faced court on 26 child exploitation charges, following an undercover investigation by the Crime and Corruption Commission.

The 30-year-old man from West Ipswich, who was identified as an active Scout leader, is accused of using the internet to access and make available child exploitation material.

Detectives from the CCC and the Queensland Police Ipswich Child Protection Investigation Unit, along with the CCC forensic computing unit, searched a West Ipswich address on Sunday, seizing cameras, various computer equipment and electronic storage devices.

It will be alleged these devices contained child exploitation material.The CCC said subsequent examination of the devices revealed further disturbing material that was allegedly made by the 30-year-old man.

He was charged with three counts of possessing child exploitation material, one count of using a carriage service to access child pornography, five counts of using a carriage service to make available child pornography, 14 counts of making child exploitation material, and three counts of indecent treatment of a child under 16.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared in Ipswich Magistrates Court yesterday.

He was allowed bail to appear again on committal mention on May 13.
