School benefits from a new look
GATTON State School students don't have to wait for the completion of their Building Education Revolution any longer.
The $3 million construction, finished last week, included the renovation and extension of the resource centre and existing library as well as the building of the multi-purpose hall.
Gatton State School principal, Lois Staatz said she was overwhelmed with the new facility.
“We are just so pleased with it and it really exceeded our expectations,” she said.
“We honestly got twice as much funding as we expected to get and we could not have wished for a better outcome.
“This really is a once in a lifetime event for our school and the building will be a fantastic asset, not just to the school, but to the whole community.”
She said she was proud of the way the funding was spent.
“All of the money used for the construction of the new buildings was spent on local workers and keeping the money within the local area,” she said.
“Some local people even donated things to us, such as the turf outside the new building.”
Mrs Staatz said they have big plans for the new facility.
“We can have movie nights with the big screen and run more fund-raising events out of it and there is the meeting room that people can use,” she said
“The kids today have just seen inside it for the first time and they were so excited, which is a good indication of how useful it's going to be.”
She said some of the money was also used to landscape the school grounds.
