Samantha Jade wins The X Factor

SAMANTHA Jade's dream of becoming a recording artist has finally come true with the pint-sized singer winning The X Factor.

The 25-year-old won the 2012 series of the reality singing competition over runner-up Jason Owen and The Collective, becoming the first woman to do so since Seven revamped the show in 2010.

The Perth native had been dropped by several record labels before deciding to give it one more shot on The X Factor.

"I'm so overwhelmed," Jade exclaimed last night.

"I am so delighted to be here and never thought I would win. I've had the most amazing experience on The X Factor and loved every minute of it."

Jade won a Sony Music recording contract and a management deal.

Her mentor, and old friend, Guy Sebastian was over the moon for the pop singer.

"I'm so proud of Sammy. She's been through so much to try and make it in the music industry and I'm so thrilled she's had this opportunity," he said.

"Watch out for her, she's going to be around for a while."

The five members of boy band The Collective, created during the show's audition process, were clearly disappointed by their third-place result, but judge Natalie Bassingthwaighte reminded them that One Direction did not win their season of The X Factor UK either.

Despite being the long-shot of the three finalists, Owen's dedicated fans helped him overcome the odds to make it to second place.

Jade's winner's single What You've Done To Me is available on iTunes now.

Auditions for the 2013 series start next month.
