Rye Hunt: Body found in Brazil is that of missing Aussie

A BODY discovered in Brazil has been confirmed as that of missing Australian backpacker Rye Hunt.

The news was confirmed today by Foreign Affairs Minister Julie Bishop.

The remains were found on Thursday, clothed in similar items as Mr Hunt was wearing when he went missing.

The 25-year-old is thought to have disappeared after mistakenly taking a powerful hallucinogenic drug, thinking it was ecstacy.

Instead he and friend Mitchell Sheppard may have taken the drug NBOMe, a synthetic psychedelic that causes irrational and potentially deadly behaviour.

The body was found in Marica, a region about 25km from Rio.

Mr Hunt had been missing since May 21
