Rural firies keen for new blood
THE Rural Fire Service has been securing equipment without a problem, but volunteers to man them are in short supply.
A membership drive in Gatton on the weekend saw crews from Gatton/Springdale, Grantham, Woodlea and Upper Flagstone stage a sausage sizzle and information day in the IGA Gatton car park.
Members were quick to point out the Rural Fire Service has no upper age limit for what is the volunteer arm of the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service, providing a service to outlying regions in the Lockyer Valley.
The crews also showed off their 4WD tenders, one of which was a brand new replacement for the Grantham crew after their truck was lost on January 9 in a flood rescue bid in Grantham.
Anyone looking to join the service can contact the QFRS Rural Operations Ipswich Area Office on (07) 3381 7122.
