RSPCA: More animals being abandoned in Queensland

THE Queensland RSPCA has experienced one of its worst years for animal abandonment, with shelters across the state at capacity.

But one of the reasons says a lot more about people than their four-legged companions.

"There is an issue with de-sexing everywhere," RSPCA spokesman Michael Beattie said. "That is fairly widespread.

"But I think there is an issue with some young men in particular, who feel it is not a macho thing to do, to get your dog, particularly a male dog, desexed.

"And that is frustrating."
