Roosters near full fitness after duo cleared to face Tigers

THE Sydney Roosters have been boosted by Michael Gordon and Blake Ferguson both being cleared for Saturday's clash with the Wests Tigers.

Gordon makes his return at Allianz Stadium after four weeks on the sideline with a pectoral injury.

Roosters coach Trent Robinson said the fullback was weeks ahead of schedule, with him originally expected to miss up to two months.

Ferguson, meanwhile, landed on his shoulder after catching a bomb during last week's loss to Melbourne and was in some danger of missing the clash.

"That's a bonus," Robinson said of Gordon's return.

"The opportunity to have surgery was on the table. It was a decent injury but one we thought could be rehabbed.

"We have the benefit of not having to wait as long for him to come back. Surgery would have been at least a month more.

"We're not going to put him out there if he's not ready. So he's ready to go."

The third-placed Roosters, who have lost two of their past three games, are now close to full fitness three weeks out from the finals.

Only Daniel Tupou (groin) remains on the sideline. He is due back in the first week of the playoffs.

"Toops is the only one out of our whole squad that's missing at the moment," Robinson said. "So we want to make sure we are injury free, it's important this time of the year."

The Tigers, despite sitting in the 15th place, have the better form, having won two of their past three matches.

But the Roosters have won their past nine clashes and 13 of the past 14, including a 40-18 win at Campbelltown Stadium in round 14.
