POLICE believe an elderly couple found dead in their Rockhampton home yesterday morning was having significant marital difficulties.

Post-mortem examinations of an 83-year-old man and a 79-year-old woman discovered at the Bracher St, Wandal residence are underway today.

The incident is being treated as a murder-suicide.

Rockhampton CIB Acting Senior Sergeant Scott Ingram said police found the body of the woman in the kitchen.

He said she had suffered significant head injuries. Her death is being treated as suspicious.

The man's body was located under the house.

Snr Sgt Ingram said it appeared he had taken his own life.

A report will now be prepared for the Coroner, but Snr Sgt Ingram said this could take up to six weeks.

It is believed the couple have been living in the Wandal house for more than 30 years.
