SHE'S a young up and coming MP from the Shire in Sydney's south, he's the one time truck driver turned State Roads Minister and when 29 year-old Eleni Petinos went to lobby Duncan Gay for improved infrastructure in her seat he unleashed a shocking line.
"The words I used were: "Building a road is not like buying a handbag or a car," Mr Gay said via a statement this afternoon.
"Certainly no offence was meant by my words and if any was taken, I apologise. I have spoken with the Member for Miranda and conveyed those thoughts.
"I have reflected on this and understand my choice of words should have been better."
It's understood Ms Petinos told colleagues about the comment in the Coalition party room yesterday.
Today his Mr Gay's cabinet colleagues rushed to his defence with Premier Mike Baird telling the Daily Telegraph the comment lacked any intent.
