Ride-on mower man half cut say police

A Grand Final night trip to the servo on a ride-on lawnmower has earned a Hobart man a date with a magistrate.

The 23-year-old was spotted driving the lawnmower along the footpath alongside the East Derwent Highway near the Beltana Hotel at Lindisfarne just after midnight on October 1.

The man pulled into the nearby BP service station, with a police car not far behind.

He was charged with driving a motor vehicle while exceeding the proscribed alcohol limit, using an unregistered motor vehicle, and using an uninsured motor vehicle.

Police allege he had a blood alcohol reading of 0.143, nearly three times the legal limit for driving.
"Mate ... we suggest getting a ride not a ride-on!" Tasmania Police said in a post on their Facebook page.

"Organising a designated driver does not mean John Deere.

"Old mate was already on the gas when he decided to ride his lawnmower to his local service station to fill up."
