Revamp planned as brothers buy $4.9m Aerodrome Rd shops

LURED by the desire for a good long term investment, two brothers have set out to invigorate a Maroochydore shopping strip.

A fish and chip shop and the new Beefy's Pies will soon open at a group of Aerodrome Rd shops they bought 18 months ago, as John and Graham Ford's vision for the run-down shopping strip rolls out.

The Ford brothers bought the building, which hosts close to a dozen shops, for $4.9m 18 months ago.

Their property includes two houses on Wrigley St and several commercial tenancies on Aerodrome Rd including a butcher, the former Eagle Boys Pizza shop (now being refurbished for a fish and chip shop), and the former Network Video shopfront that is being renovated for the new Beefy's Pies.

John Ford said most of the commercial tenancies at the site hadn't had a "fresh coat of paint" for a long time.

"It hasn't had money spent on it for ages," he said.

"We want to improve the quality of the building and quality of the tenants.

"It's going to be a pretty big improvement to the little group of shops down there."

John Ford said the site, which was 500m from the beach and just a few blocks from he new city gateway to the Maroochydore CBD, had real potential.

The Ford brothers have also owned and run successful local business FB Fencing for 10 years, but decided to take on the Aerodrome Rd project as a long term investment, Mr Ford said.

He anticipated investing about $200,000 on improvements to the premises in the coming months and years.
