Relay for life organisers want you

LOCKYER Valley's Relay For Life is only ten weeks away and the existing organising committee needs volunteers to make it even bigger and better than last year.

Jane Wilce, outgoing Chair, along with newly elected Co-Chair Judy Collie invite all Lockyer Valley locals to join the organising committee now.

“I would like to encourage all interested people to get involved and contact us,” Ms Wilce said.

“We have a chance to create something special for the one in three people diagnosed with cancer each year in South West Queensland.

“I would especially like to extend an invitation to local cancer survivors and carers.

“At the core of Relay For Life is a celebration of survivorship and the importance of honouring those we have lost to the disease.

“Relay For Life is an overnight community fundraising event that spreads a message of hope and support to those affected by cancer,” according to Kathryn Kenyon, Relay For Life Co-ordinator for Cancer Council's South West Queensland regional office.

“The 2008 Lockyer Valley Relay For Life was a wonderful success,” Ms Kenyon said.

“I would like to thank all those people who volunteered their time on last year's committee and encourage any new faces to assist us this year.”

“The individuals who volunteer their time to help organise Relay For Life play an important role in the fight against cancer," said Kathryn Kenyon. "There are opportunities available for anyone that would like to be involved. The one common denominator we are looking for is enthusiasm."

The Lockyer Valley Relay For Life organising committee will start meeting this month.

For further information on how you can help, contact Kathryn Kenyon at Cancer Council Queensland on 1300 65 65 85.

The Lockyer Valley event will be held over the October 10 - 11 weekend at the Gatton Showgrounds.
