A TOOWOOMBA man has a new outlook on life after rare medical issues led to the amputation of his leg.

Richard Brumby is the manager of an auto parts shop in Toowoomba and first realised something was wrong when he had a pain in his leg.

He was rushed to hospital and then airlifted to Brisbane where doctors tried to save his leg.

Unfortunately that failed and it had to be amputated.

Since losing his leg, Mr Brumby has a new perspective on life and urged people not to forget the "little things".

"Don't forget all the little things in your life, to lose them is huge," he said.

"It's amazing what we take for granted, even a nice cool breeze can make such a difference."

During his ordeal he received support from friends and family in Toowoomba.

"I've had constant messages from people I didn't expect to hear from and hardly a peep from those I thought would be there for me.

"Life has a funny way of showing you your true friends.

"If it wasn't for the ongoing support of my customers, friends and families this would be a struggle.

"Remember that life is too short, you never know how long you will have them in your life."

Mr Brumby has been told the cause of the medical condition which led to the amputation is still unknown.

A Gofundme page has been set up to help Mr Brumby modify his home and pay for medical expenses.
