'Our dream is that one day CF will stand for Cure Found'

JUST weeks after Mason Willing was born he was diagnosed with incurable and life-shortening condition.

Little Mason was born in September last year to first-time parents Taneil and Mark who received the confronting news their son had cystic fibrosis.

Despite it being a genetic condition, neither parent had any history of the disease in their families and no awareness of what it meant.

Ms Willing is now determined to raise more awareness of CF, with sufferers developing an abnormal amount of excessively thick and sticky mucus in the lungs, airways and digestive system.

The mucus causes impairment of the digestive functions of the pancreas and traps bacteria in the lungs. This results in recurrent infections which lead to irreversible damage.

"Mason was diagnosed through the heel prick test at four weeks old," she said.

"This was such a shock to us both as new parents, and we wish that no other parent would have to get this news that will change their life forever.

"Our dream is that one day CF will stand for Cure Found."

To raise money for Cystic Fibrosis Queensland, Ms Willing has organised Racin for Mason. Thanks to the generosity of The Fit Lab, a team will complete 65km on treadmills as part of a relay event today.
