THE Sunshine Coast's first MasterChef winner is shaping up as a real possibility.
Two talented cooks are flying the flag for the region as the reality cooking show enters its final month.
Noosa-raised teacher Elena Duggan and Noosa coffee-roaster Matt Sinclair have both made the cut for the Top 10, a significant milestone for contestants.
"When you hit Top 10 you start to see the finish line and you know you'll able to see your family again," Matt told APN.
"You get past missing them and start thinking 'okay head down, just keep driving and pushing as hard as you can'.
"Even if you get to the end you know you're going to see them soon."
Her time on the show has inspired Elena, who was in Noosa this week visiting family, to be more ambitious with her dream to combine her loves of cooking and education.
"I realised maybe I wasn't dreaming big enough with what I wanted to do after the show," she said.
"You don't fully understand your capabilities until you're thrust into these challenges and you've got no choice but to keep going."
Rockhampton-born bartender Harry Foster, whose mother lives in Maroochydore, has also made it into the Top 10.
Today online bookmaker SportsBet has the three cooks as the most likely to win the show's grand prize.
Elena is at $2.25 odds, followed by Matt on $2.40 odds and Harry on $6 odds.
Together With Gold Coast nanny Chloe Bowles and Cairns pharmacy technician Elise Franciskovic, half of this year's the Top 10 is made up of current or former Queenslanders.
But there's no rest for the aspiring food lovers, with acclaimed British food pioneer Heston Blumenthal arriving for a week-long guest chef role on Sunday.
"He's just on a completely different planet," Matt said.
"I'm the guy who if you give me a beautifully cooked piece of fish as it is, I'm happy," he said.
"A squeeze of lemon and salt and I'm good to go. The conceptual side of cooking and having the story behind food is not one of my strengths so when Heston arrived I was very nervous."
MasterChef continues on Sunday at 7.30pm on Channel 10.
