A QUEENSLAND Health-run nursing home in Oakey has been hit with a non-compliance notice from the Federal Government after an audit found the facility failed to meet nine accreditation standards.
The recent audit of the Dr EAF McDonald Nursing Home in Oakey by the Australian Aged Care Quality Agency found the facility could not ensure residents were receiving appropriate clinical care, that residents' medications were not managed safely and correctly, and that residents and their representatives were not satisfied the nursing home was recognising or respecting residents' rights to privacy, dignity and confidentiality.
The home also failed to meet accreditation standards in human resource management, information systems, continuous improvement of health and personal care, behavioural management, regulatory compliance and living environment.
Darling Downs Hospital and Health Service executive director of rural health Dr Martin Byrne said that following the audit, the DDHHS had developed an action plan and "embedded these practices into the ongoing running of the facility".
Auditors found the home did not have "effective processes to ensure care recipients receive appropriate clinical care".
"Assessment, re-assessment and care planning processes are not effective in identifying and planning clinical care needs. Care directives are not consistently followed," the report stated.
"Referrals to health specialists do not consistently occur to inform care."
The non-compliance notice was issued on August 18 and the DDHHS was given 90 days to put improvement measures in place.
"The DDHHS welcomes the opportunity these audits bring to confirm we are delivering the best possible care to our consumers," Dr Byrne said.
"The facility will undergo reassessment of the standards in mid-November and we are looking forward to reaffirming our commitment to the patient-centred care we provide.
"Patient care continues to be at the forefront of every decision and all actions that have been undertaken are with the best interests of the residents in mind."
