Queensland Bulls coach pulls up stumps

QUEENSLAND Bulls coach Phil Jaques has quit his post.

Jaques has been the Bulls mentor for the past two seasons and will now move to Sydney to be closer to family and from next season will take up a coaching role with New South Wales.

"Phil has stood down for reasons that resonate for many, and he goes with our blessing and best wishes,” Queensland Cricket chief executive Max Walters said.

"He and his wife Jessica have a young family and, after making a successful transition from player to head coach, he has made the decision to put his family first and return to Sydney to be closer to their extended family support network.”

Jaques, who had one year left on his contract with Queensland, said leaving the Bulls would be hard.

"Stepping down was a very challenging decision to make, and not one that I made lightly, but I know it was the right one for my family and me,” he said.

"I have enjoyed the chance to coach at a high level with Queensland and stand aside with the knowledge that there are a number of very special players in the group who have bright futures.

"Queensland Cricket made us very welcome when we moved here and I thank them for their understanding in this instance, but also the professional and caring manner which they have displayed during my time with the Bulls.”

Ashley Noffke, James Hopes, Andy Bichel and John Davison and state talent manager Justin Sternes will steer the Bulls' off-season program until a new full-time coach is appointed.
