Qld family shattered by crash near Dubbo

A MOTHER and father who lost two of their three sons in a horror collision with a truck near Dubbo have been described as parents whose children were "everything".

Taite Van Der Heyden, 12, and his brother Kobi, 9, lost their lives in the early hours of Saturday morning after the 4WD they were passengers in collided with a B-double on the Newell Hwy about 3.30am.

Mum Jen, 41, and husband Jason, 37, were treated for shock at the scene before later travelling to Sydney to be with their youngest son Scout, 4, who was flown to the Children's Hospital at Westmead in a serious condition.

"They are a beautiful family who love each other so much," a friend said.

"Family was everything to them."

Jen and Jason, who police said lived in Queensland, also have a daughter who was not in the car. The B-double truck driver, 53, was trapped in his vehicle before being cut out by emergency service crews, including the Dubbo Rescue Squad volunteer service and NSW Fire and Rescue.

The truck driver was flown to Royal North Shore Hospital suffering from a significant back injury.

The crash was so violent, the accident site stretched across more than 500m between Burraway Rd and North Terramungamine Rd, about 12km north of Dubbo.

Sources said the crash was not a head-on collision and there was no fog or rain at the time of the incident.

The 4WD was travelling in a northerly direction while the truck, part of the Red Star transport company, was heading south.

The truck came to rest near a creek bed 40m from the roadway.

The NSW Police Crash Investigation Unit and local police have been conducting inquiries into the accident.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
