Jail for man who drove prime mover into ex-wife's home

A MAN has been sentenced to seven and a half years in jail after he deliberately drove a prime mover into his ex-wife's Oakhurst home before setting the house on fire.

Denis Ian Harris, 55, pleaded guilty to a series of charges relating to the incident, including the dangerous operation of a vehicle, malicious act with intent, two counts of arson, acts with intent to disable and unlawful stalking.

He was sentenced to seven and a half years in jail for his actions, with a parole eligibility date set down for April next year.

The court heard the acrimonious breakdown of Harris's marriage of 15 years had preceded the attack on the home.

Harris came to the house and left several times on March 1 and into the early hours of March 2.

About 9am on March 2, Harris arrived at his ex-wife's home in a prime mover.

He reversed the vehicle into the double garage of the home, causing a car in the garage to crash through the wall into the study.

Harris then doused several rooms of the house with petrol and set it alight.

Harris was left with significant burns to his legs, requiring skin grafts after the incident.
