THE search for Daniel Morcombe’s remains shifted to a new location yesterday.

The latest search area in Beerwah is believed to be about 100m south of where police had been looking.

There were reports that the area had been the location of a demountable building which was removed several years ago.

Police were using an excavator to dig up what appeared to be old flooring or carpet, with the search focus on a drain.

It is also understood that specialised fire crews were brought in to examine what looked like a well.

Police were taking photographs and removing evidence, but apparently refused to confirm if a second new search area had been identified.

The adjusted focus in the quest to locate more of Daniel’s remains came despite the official search being suspended yesterday for a second time due to bad weather.

Meanwhile, it was revealed yesterday that Daniel’s funeral may be funded by the public if his parents accept an offer from the Queensland premier.

Anna Bligh said her government had told the Morcombe family it would help them make “appropriate, dignified arrangements to farewell Daniel”.

“I don’t believe the family have made a decision yet,” Ms Bligh told reporters in Sydney.
