Police charge man with gang links as war on drugs continues

GLADSTONE police claimed more scalps as a result of Operation Kilo Prophecy, with a 31-year-old man with ties to the Bandidos outlaw motorcycle gang arrested on numerous charges.

Charles Hodges Maxwell was refused bail and remanded in custody after being arrested on Monday as Gladstone detectives continued their crackdown on drug trafficking in the region.

Maxwell was charged with a range of offences, which included single counts of drug trafficking, possessing utensils or pipes used for drug taking, possession of a knife in a public place and stealing among others.

Maxwell applied for bail but was refused, and is due to reappear in Gladstone Magistrates Court on October 28.

Criminal Investigation Branch Detective Senior Constable Matt Columbus said police had identified alleged ties between Maxwell and the Bandidos as part of one of the two drug syndicates discovered.

"We're continuing to identify further links targeting persons trafficking dangerous drugs within the Gladstone area," he said.

A male and female also involved in a raid conducted at a Kent St address on July 31 appeared yesterday.

Police uncovered a semi-automatic .22 rifle and silencer, eight canisters of pepper spray, 7g of amphetamines and 82g of marijuana during the raid and the pair faced a number of charges as a result.

Richard Ferreira was charged with two counts of unlawful possession of weapons and one count of dangerous drug possession among others.

Courtney Elizabeth Hawking also faced unlawful possession of weapons charges as well as one count of possession of a knife in a public place among other charges.

Hawking will reappear in Gladstone Magistrates Court on September 17.
