Man, 21, charged with rape of woman at Finch Hatton


A MAN charged with rape, deprivation of liberty and break and enter over the alleged sexual assault of a woman at Finch Hatton didn't apply for bail during the first mention.

The court was closed for the brief mention, during which the 21-year-old defendant was formally charged by Magistrate Damien Dwyer in the Mackay Magistrates Court today.

The matter was adjourned to next Tuesday for a bail application.



Mackay detectives charged a 21-year-old man overnight following investigations into the alleged sexual assault of a woman in the Finch Hatton area on June 6.

The man, from the Pioneer Valley area, has been charged with rape, deprivation of liberty and enter dwelling with intent by break.

He is expected to appear at the Mackay Magistrates Court today.



MACKAY detectives continue to investigate the sexual assault of a woman which occurred in the Finch Hatton area on Friday, June 6.

Preliminary investigations indicate that an unknown man broke into a farm house located between Finch Hatton and Pinnacle around 7.50am and sexually assaulted the female resident.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have noticed anything suspicious in the area on Friday morning to contact Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000 or 24hrs a day.

The man is described as 170cms tall with a slim build and he was wearing trousers and a dark hooded jacket.

The woman was transported to Mackay Base Hospital for treatment.
