Drug charges laid after illegal bushland rave party

POLICE closed down a rave party in the Bucca State Forest this week and allegedly found an amount of illegal drugs in the possession of a number of people.

Reports of loud music were made on Monday night and early on Tuesday morning.

At 9am officers in four-wheel-drives in the company of the police dog unit found a group of 18 people partying around a campfire off a trail.

Police said a number of intoxicated people were located at the scene along with items of drug paraphernalia.

Some of the partygoers were searched and found to be in the possession of illegal drugs.

Police said an ecstasy tablet was found on a 19-year-old male.

Searches were also conducted on a man, 20, from Sandy Beach, a man, 18, also of Sandy Beach, a man, 22, of Moonee Beach and two females, aged 18 and 19 from Korora.

Police said action will be taken against the organisers of the illegal rave.

Coffs Clarence Crime Manager Detective Inspector Darren Jameson said police have a zero tolerance approach towards illegal bushland rave parties.

"Rave parties where people are consuming illegal drugs are a recipe for disaster," Inspt. Jameson said.

"Parties of this nature in national parks and state forests are illegal and police will take action to shut down these parties and take appropriate action against those responsible."
