Police call for fire information
Laidley Police are asking for public assistance in solving two cases of suspected arson on Wednesday.
Senior Sergeant Jim McDonald said police received reports of two separate fires on Laidley-Plainland Rd, just minutes apart, and are treating both as 'suspicious'.
"The first fire was reported at 3.15pm, on Laidley-Plainland Road, and then a second fire, near Pats Road, was reported at 3.18pm" Snr Sgt McDonald said.
"Fortunately the property owner had already slashed fire break, and both fires were quickly extinguished by volunteer fire fighters from the Rural Fire Brigade, before they caused significant damage."
Despite this, Snr Sgt McDonald said it was 'a concern' that the fires were both lit in close proximity to residential housing estates, and could easily have caused 'significant' damage if left unchecked.
"There is now a joint investigation between police and the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service into the fires, and any information from members of the public could be of use to officers."
Snr Sgt McDonald said information could be given direct to Laidley officers by calling 5466 8000, or via Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
"I would ask the community to be vigilant, and to not tolerate criminal behavior, any information on any suspected criminal activity is always welcome, people should take note of the time, date, location, and get a description of people of vehicles involved, so that officers can follow up reports," Snr Sgt McDonald said.
"Our community enjoys its relaxed lifestyle, our job is to protect that lifestyle."
