Morris earns Aussie spot

A TRIP to Barcelona next year to play futsal is just one of the rewards in an outstanding sporting and academic year for North High student Felicity Morris.

Morris, 13, was selected for the Australian under-15 team to play in Spain in May next year, after competing at the national championships in Brisbane in September.

"I'm so excited about it," she said.

"I've been doing futsal training and going for a run each morning and most afternoons.

"I'm still doing soccer training Mondays and Wednesdays and playing futsal on Tuesdays."

Morris started outdoor soccer when she was in Year 3 and has been playing futsal, the indoor version of the game, for the past five years.

She's also a talented cricketer, and has been the only girl playing at the Farleigh Magpies club for the past four years.

She is also the only girl in North High's cricket academy, and competed recently for the U15 Capricornia girls' team, which placed third in the state championships in Brisbane.

The Year 10 student was awarded the school's U14 cricket award, along with an academic award, at the recent annual awards night.

While she loves both sports, she leans towards soccer, simply because she plays it more.

But how does she manage to excel at two sports and keep her grades up?

"I take my homework down to training and do it while I'm waiting," she said.

"But I think Mum says that I don't tidy my room enough."
