Petition to repair the Gatton Esk Road

An online petition has been organised to demand the Queensland Government repair the Gatton Esk Road from the Warrego Highway through to Millers Road (approx. 8.2km). This State Government road was promised to be upgraded with the construction of the Southern Queensland Correctional Centre (SQCC) (which opened in January 2012). Instead the road was simply reduced from a 100km zone to an 80km zone and left to deteriorate under the increased traffic of construction vehicles, staff and visitors to SQCC. The additional impact of two major flood incidents has completely ruined the road, with temporary patching causing ongoing problems.

This roadway is a public safety concern – it is damaging to vehicles and dangerous to drivers. This is not just a problem for our community, but also for tourists, and staff and visitors to the SQCC.

There is also a facebook page to keep you informed and for you to show support: http://www.facebook.com/GattonEskRoad

With your support we aim to make sure the Government allocates funding to complete this project in 2014.
