Peter Harvey's iPod used for his memorial service

VETERAN newsman Peter Harvey's 25 favourite songs were played on rotation at a public memorial service in Sydney at the weekend.

Bruce Springsteen, Queen and Lady Gaga were among the music played directly from Harvey's iPod at Sydney's Town Hall on Saturday to celebrate the life of a TV great.

Harvey was 68 when he died on March 2 from pancreatic cancer with his family by his bedside.

Special guests at the service included Prime Minister Julia Gillard, former prime minister Paul Keating, Opposition Leader Tony Abbott and New South Wales Premier Barry O'Farrell.

Harvey is survived by his wife Anne, children Adam and Claire and grandson Rory.
