Enjoying a day in the sun

WHILE the region's official council organised events were cancelled and awards were postponed until Somerset gets back on its feet, residents and travellers through the Brisbane Valley had no trouble making the most of the sunny Australia Day.

The Somerset Regional Council Australia Day awards ceremony and Citizenship Ceremonies will be postponed to a more appropriate time and information will be released closer to the time.

With the playground at the park in Esk closed for the day, Esk pubs and cafes played host to a range of people keen to enjoy the day off in true Aussie style.

Fernvale's park and barbecue areas proved to be an Australia Day hotspot with those unable to get to Wivenhoe and Somerset Dams converging for a great lunch and game of football or cricket, or simply a great time relaxing in the shade.

Lowood was a hub of activity with many flocking to the pool.
