Photographer's passion is illuminating

PHOTOGRAPHER Sandra Faye is 100% excited.

The snapper won eight awards from eight photos submitted to the 2012 Canon Creative Asia Awards in Hong Kong.

This year's accomplishments follow a further four from four awards in her clean sweep last year in the same competition.

Faye has lived on the Sunshine Coast for 20 years, and has her own purpose-built studio just out of Pomona, known as Studio 417, where she specialises in corporate, fine arts and portraiture.

The studio sits on a beautifully manicured 1.6ha, peacefully away from the daily grind of the Coast.

"You can see when people walk into my studio, they're calm and relaxed, rather than if they were to walk through the doors of a studio in Maroochydore," Faye said.

"I find the nice, relaxed atmosphere really sets the mood, and you can definitely see that in the final print."

Faye's passion for photography began at age eight, and in high school, she became a part of the camera club to help improve her knowledge of the art.

After high school, an employment opportunity gave her a huge leap forward in her career where she worked alongside New Zealand photographer Ronald Woolf, learning the techniques of the dark room.

She picked up "old-style" skills such as lighting, layering, hand colouring, texturing and retouching.

But as technology evolved, so did her knowledge, and she obtained a Diploma of Photography and Photo Imaging in 2006.

"Being trained in the dark room, I played with and learned to love lighting," she said.

"I like to do most of my work in my studio because I can set the lighting to how I want it, and I don't have to rely on the weather.

"I can shoot any time of the day I want, and I'm always shooting for competition."

Faye also shoots family portraits, pregnancy stills, model portfolios and fashion for local designers.

Studio 417 can be hired out to other photographers and lessons in Photoshop and studio lighting are available.
