A PREDATOR who was once jailed for the attempted abduction of a young boy near Ipswich has had a bid to have his parole conditions relaxed granted.
He is now allowed to use a device connected to the internet despite a history of offences against young children.
However, if he does he must inform corrective services that he has used the device at the next possible opportunity otherwise he could be in breach of his revised parole conditions.
Ryan James Fuller, 39, fronted the Brisbane Supreme Court on Monday to hear the application.
Brisbane-based psychiatrist Dr Joan Lawrence told the court she deemed Fuller to be a medium risk of reoffending, but supported his application for access to devices connected to the internet.
"In view of his previous offences against children, which included grooming, computers play an important role in that," she said.
"It would be prudent for some type of supervision be placed on him in relation to accessing devices connected to the internet.
"My concern centres around the access to the internet, not the computers themselves.
"However, it could be seen as a disadvantage concerning his reintegration back into society and rehabilitation if he did not have access to the internet for things as simply looking for a job."
Judge Alan Wilson agreed Fuller could be disadvantaged and granted the application.
He also noted Fuller had breached his supervision order on four occasions after repeatedly contacting the family of an 11-year-old girl.
"To deny anyone access to the internet in this day and age can be seen as a distinct disadvantage," he said.
"There are disadvantages imposed today in an ever-changing world that may not have been thought of when this original order was put into place."
Fuller will be required to notify corrective services about his use of any devices which have access to the internet at the first opportunity.
After he declares those devices corrective services will have the authority to monitor them.
