Man with propeller injury flown to Townsville

UPDATE 10.39AM SUN: A 48-year-old man is recovering in Townsville after he was struck in the face by a boat propeller at Seaforth.

A Townsville Hospital spokesman said the man was in a stable condition.

Yesterday afternoon he was listed as being in a serious but stable condition.

The incident occurred at 1.15pm after he fell from a boat and came into contact with the propeller and received injuries to his face.

Three ambulance crews, including critical care, and the RACQ CQ Rescue chopper were called to assist the injured man.

On arrival at Mackay Base Hospital it is understood plans were made for the man to be flown to Townsville.

He arrived about midnight.

UPDATE 5.45PM: A MAN is in a serious but stable condition at Mackay Base Hospital after he was struck in the face by a propeller.

The man, aged in his 40s, had been boating at Seaforth when it is understood he fell off the vessel and came into contact with the propeller.

Three ambulance crews, including critical care paramedics, and the RACQ CQ Rescue chopper were sent to assist the seriously injured man.

The incident occurred at 1.15pm today and at this stage it is unknown why he fell from the boat.

Medical crew from the rescue chopper, which landed nearby at Seaforth Bowls Club, offered initial triage on the man before he was taken to hospital in an ambulance.

RACQ CQ Rescue's doctor and paramedic also travelled with the man to offer treatment.

As of 5pm today he was in a serious but stable condition at the hospital.

UPDATE 2.55PM: CRITICAL care paramedics are treating a man whose face was struck by a boat propeller at Seaforth.

The man, aged in his 40s, was injured just after 1pm today.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said it appeared the man had fallen off the boat when he came in contact with the propeller.

"He appears to have a face injury," she said.

Three QAS crews are on scene at Victor Creek boat ramp, including critical care paramedics.

The RACQ CQ Rescue chopper was tasked to the scene with medical crew performing some initial triage on the man but did not transport the patient.

The man is being taken to Mackay Base Hospital via ambulance.
