Orman has eyes on winning Gatton Cup
THE Gatton Cup on Sunday will be apprentice jockey Jimmy Orman’s second attempt at winning the local race, this time aboard his mum’s horse Iniquity.
Orman first rode in the Gatton Cup in 2014, but finished towards the end of the field.
Orman said he chose to ride his mum’s horse at the Gatton Cup instead of heading to Caloundra.
“Obviously, mum wants to win and it’s obviously the hometown Cup – who doesn’t want to win it?” Orman said.
“I think he (Iniquity) will be very hard to beat.
“He had a run over 2200 the other week and was only beaten by half a length.
“He’s feeling fit and well, so he’ll be ready to go.”
With nominations yet to be confirmed, it’s likely Orman will have up to an extra six rides on Cup day.
“Last weekend’s rain should provide a good surface to race on,” Orman said.
“It should be a good day.”
Orman will come to Gatton on Sunday after racing in his third Group One race this Saturday.
The race was scheduled for last weekend but was washed out.
