FIREWORKS need the flick this New Year's Eve.

It's time we did something different to mark the end of one year and the beginning of another.

Fireworks have had their time - let's find something more cost exciting, less noisy and more cost effective.

Just like flashmobs, fireworks have become so overused and overrated that no matter how much money and effort they pour into it I just can't get excited about it.

I haven't always disapproved of fireworks - it's just that I've seen way too many over the years that are way too similar.

It's a bunch of bright flashes in the sky - that's it.

Do you enjoy fireworks?

This poll ended on 19 December 2013.

Current Results

Yes sir! I'll never get sick of them.

41%

They're OK I guess

18%

Nope! Sick of them, time for a change.

40%

This is not a scientific poll. The results reflect only the opinions of those who chose to participate.

They last for 15 minutes and longer sometimes.

That's about 10 minutes too long in my book.

Can you even recall a specific fireworks show that really stood out?

Think about it - if you've seen one fireworks show, you've seen them all.

Year in, year out - they're the same loud and lame expensive explosions as the previous year.

Spot the difference.

If you're 10 years and under I can understand the appeal. That's why we have the 8pm or 9pm fireworks on NYE.

The rest of us though, I honestly didn't think we'd be as easily impressed.

We need something new and exciting to mark the new year.

Laser light show? That'd be pretty cool.

I'd settle for one of those giant ball drops they do at Times Square in New York.

Let's find something that costs less, doesn't send dogs into a spin and actually makes staying up to midnight worth while.
