One stylish celebration
ABOUT 100 local carers gathered for a very colourful Bollywood-themed celebration on Thursday.
Carers Queensland Carers Services Officer, Alex Galea, said theBollywood theme was a great way to kick off the celebrations.
“It was a successful event and it was great to hear from people who are experienced with the caring role,” he said.
“It really is a good thing for all the carers to get together, because carers understand each other and the battles they face, the highs and lows.
“They have the same common goal with their caring role and they just want some support in doing that.
“Like everyone else, carers are looking to be included in the community as a whole and sometimes the caring role prevents them from doing those things, such as getting out and about with friends or holding a job.
“Events like this show those carers they can live life like everyone else with the support that is available.”
He said he expected more carers to attend.
“I know there are more carers in the region, but it can be hard for some people to get the time with respite and that sort of thing,” he said.
“It has opened up a lot of the carers here today who were not aware of the services that are available.
“There were a lot of people who weren't aware of the support that is available, and the celebration raises awareness that there is access to more information.”
Mr Galea said he thanks the Lions Club of Laidley for their help catering on the day and the carers who attended.
